Jaguar has announced that it will start the production of its new XE sedan at Land Rover’s updated Solihull plant. The Solihull plant, formerly known as the “home of Land Rover” will also build the upcoming F-Pace SUV along with its regular production lines.
The new Jaguar XE will be the first car by the company to be built at Solihull facility, since this production site is involved in making the entire Land Rover line-up, except for the Evoque and Discovery Sport.
The Jaguar XE sedan will be developed using aluminium to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. It will be powered by two types of engines with different settings; the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel and turbocharged petrol. The diesel motor will produce 161bhp and 178bhp, whereas the petrol engines will generate 197bhp and 237bhp.
Over the past few years, the Solihull plant has increased the number of its employees to 32,000 and Jaguar estimates to sell more than 100,000 XE cars in the international markets annually. The 2016 Jaguar XE was introduced in September 2013 and will most probably hit the U.S. markets in 2016.
