Great news for motorsports fans! Robert De Niro is all set to play the role of legendary Enzo Ferrari, founder of the Ferrari sports car, in an upcoming film about his life, simply titled, ‘Ferrari’.

According to an Italian newspaper, Il Messaggero, Robert De Niro says it is a great honour for me to be getting this chance as Enzo Ferrari, who founded the Scuderia Ferrari racing team and started a car company with the same name before eventually passing away in 1988 at the age of 90.

The film will be produced by Triworld’s Gianni Bozzacchi and De Niro’s own production company, TriBeca Film. Screenwriters from ‘Nixon’ fame, Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson have been selected to write the screenplay while Clint Eastwood has expressed interest in directing the movie. The movie is due to come out in 2016.
