In response to prevailing rumours about an entry-level Lamborghini being made as a counter strategy to McLaren’s 570s, CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that such a move is not on the cards right now, however, opportunities could be explored for the future.
Many top brands have launched models to compete in the sub-$200,000 sports car segment, which include the McLaren 570s , the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Ferrari’s V-6 model. Although Winkelmann has denied any model below the Huracan concept being in the works, he did confirm the possibility of other variants to existing car models. The reason he cited for not competing in the category is the high level of competition, thus making the move highly unfeasible.
In the same breath, Winkelmann also stated that the famous Lamborghini Asterion was created as a purely ‘technological concept’ and that there were no plans of producing any variants of the product in the near future.
