People living in some busy metropolitans across the globe may have forgotten what a Mitsubishi looks like but the Japanese automaker has actually gained a double digit growth in the past five quarters. It now plans to go for expansion by releasing two new models before August 2016. The first of these will be a sedan version of the Mirage and the second, an Outlander Plug-in Hybrid in the first quarter of 2016.

Both of these models will be launched in the US and the new Outlander will be the first in its Sport segment of the market, as no manufacturer currently extends a plug-in hybrid.

The Vice President of the North American executive, Don Swearingen however did not sound very optimistic about the decision. When asked to share the news with media, he said, “Clearly Mitsubishi is a smaller company so we have to do the business case on every model and it must show a value offer for our customers, a profit for us and our dealers, and if the business model doesn’t show that we’re not going to bring it to the US.” Auto Guide reported.

“We cannot have a failure,” he said. “We have to make sure we study the market, we bring out competitive price vehicles that offer a value proposition, but also in a segment that we think there’s enough volume.”

The Tokyo automaker recently lost a partnership deal with Renault, but hopes are not down the drain as the company is already in talks with Peugeot for a family sedan.
