BMW has confirmed to a promise it made last December that the company will be making plug-in hybrid versions of its all major models. The decision indicates the German company’s growing interest in becoming an eco-friendly entity.
The first of these will be the X5 xDrive40e which was exhibited at the New York Auto Show. When asked about the PHEV version, the CEO of BMW North America stated that the plan will be applied to all models. He dismissed rumors of a BMW i5 and i7, saying that company is focusing on plug-in models at the moment.
The BMW i-series currently includes a five-door urban BMW i3 and a BMW i8 and new additions to the line-up won’t be created any time soon. Responding to the question about Tesla, the CEO, Ludwig Willisch said, “I wouldn’t say I don’t see any competition but I still see that a BMW 5 series and a Tesla are totally different animals.”
