For those looking to make a good impression but lacking the funds to do so are in luck. McLaren has announced at the New York Auto Show that the new McLaren 540C sports car will cost an incredibly reasonable $165,000. That puts this Sports Series car well within the range of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which carries a price tag of $182,700.

Termed as ‘the most accessible McLaren ever’ by McLaren Automotive CEO, Mike Flewitt, the car is the beginning of a series of future models that fall within and slightly above the price range. “Talking to our retailers and talking to our customers there was a desire to have as competitively priced model as possible,” said Mike Flewitt.

In spite of the low cost, Mike Flewitt does not expect the car to sell much. This can be attributed to the deductions made to the McLaren 540C sports car in order to accommodate the low price. This included the swapping of carbon ceramic brakes with conventional units and less stylized bodywork. In addition, the 540C is expected to deliver 540 hp while the 570S promises up to 570 hp. For now, McLaren plans to sell around 2,000 versions of its new Sports Series models.
