Toyota and BMW reportedly are working to create Supra, which will be carrying BMW’s engine.
The two companies signed a deal in 2011 and have jointly worked on different projects previously, one of which was hydrogen fuel cell venture. Now the Japanese automaker is expected to revive its Supra series as a plugin-hybrid sports car powered by a six-cylinder engine. Alongside Supra, BMW would also be working on Z4 which will be a four-wheel drive equipped with a four-cylinder engine. However, both Supra and Z4 would not stand against each other.
Reports suggest that both the vehicles will be very light-weight and might use hybrid technology.
Not much is known right now regarding the cost and specification, but this joint venture will surely benefit both the automakers and could result in production of some high-end automobiles.
Both the Supra and the Z4 are expected to hit the markets by 2017 with 2018 model year.
