McLaren has introduced the 2016 570S Coupe ahead of its official debut at the New York Motor Show that will open its doors to the press tomorrow. Positioned at the bottom of the McLaren lineup, the 570S is the first member of the company’s new Sport Series family.

The 570S uses an evolution of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine that powers other members of the company’s lineup, but McLaren explains that 30-percent of the mill’s components are specific to the new model. The mid-mounted eight-cylinder generates 562 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 442 lb-ft. of torque from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm, enough to propel the coupe from zero to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 328 kmph.

A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission controlled by shift paddles sends power to the rear wheels. The 570S is fitted with an adjustable suspension setup, carbon ceramic brakes all around and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Built around a carbon fiber passenger cell, the 570S tips the scale at 2,895 pounds in its lightest configuration. Official gas mileage figures will be published in the weeks leading up to the car’s on-sale date, but McLaren promises the 570S will be exempt from the gas guzzler tax in the United States.

Highly aerodynamic, the 570S’ design is markedly inspired by the bigger 650S and the range-topping P1. The front end features the company’s signature boomerang-shaped headlights, while the rear end benefits from a large air diffuser and flying buttresses that create additional downforce.

McLaren engineers made sure the 570S is equally at home on the track and on the street, and the company boasts that it is the most usable car it has built to date. It comes standard with a full infotainment system centered around a seven-inch touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity and a configurable TFT instrument cluster. Buyers can work with McLaren’s Special Operations division to create a one-off coupe.

Following its public unveiling in the Big Apple, the 2016 McLaren 570S Coupe will go on sale across the nation next fall. The topless 570S Spider is expected to greet the public for the first time next September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
