Uber – the mobile app based transportation service – has taken New York City by storm by outnumbering the yellow cabs with a significant number. The statistics disclosed by the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission reveal, there are a total of 14,088 enlisted Uber cars in contrast to the 13,587 yellow cabs found in the city.

Since its launch in 2011, Uber has been progressing with a fast pace and is preferred by the masses owing to the many conveniences rendered by its hi-tech app as well as its reasonable fare and better pay for drivers. Despite the fact that Uber drivers only work 40 hours a week they make double the amount earned by the yellow cab drivers.

On the other hand, yellow cabs are nowhere near extinction anytime soon, as they advance on with around 44,000 rides on any given day in comparison to the 30,000 rides offered by Uber per day.

The reason Uber thrives on could also be attributed to the fact that it doesn’t have any fixed schedules for drivers to follow, any complex licensing issues or underpaid drivers since most of the Uber cars are owned by their drivers.
