The German automaker Audi has called upon university students to participate in the Audi’s Driving Cup. 10 teams of students belonging to different functional domains including electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering will take part in the competition, to be held on March 25-26 at the Audi Museum Mobile.
To standardize the competition, automaker will donate 1:8-scale micro Audi Q5 crossover. Students will have to program these toys to compete in the inaugural Autonomous Driving Cup. The software-development environment of micro Q5 is identical to that of real-life Audi prototypes. This will ensure the competition outcomes being applicable to Audi’s full-scale Piloted Driving system.
The toy cars are powered by an electric motor, allowing them to run as fast as 40km/h. The competing cars will have to move through traffic (of small-scale Audi cars) and complete parking tasks, while avoiding obstacles and accidents. The winning team will be awarded with a prize money of 10,000 Euros. Moreover, the second and third place holders will get 5,000 and 1,000 Euros, respectively.
