While the turnover of automotive giants was as great as ever at the Geneva Auto Show this year, a bunch of amateurs had a surprise lined up for us too. A group of 26 students from Sbarro Espera School, where amateur automobile enthusiasts get to experiment and design ideas of their own, put together and presented their own unique idea – the Sbarro Aria Concept.
A low, two-door supercar dressed in gunship grey and hints of orange, the concept can easily pass off as an R&D product of a German giant. Its narrow beam lights and extremely refined contours give it an intimidating yet classy look.
The car weighs less than 2,500 pounds, thanks to the use of composite materials in its making. Power is generated through a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder sourced from Subaru – probably the 268-horse, 258-lb-ft found in the 2015 WRX. The OZ wheels and Recaro bucket round up the attractive package.
Sbarro Espera School was founded by Franco Sbarro – the head of a local car modification and replica car company, to give exposure to students with zero past experience, and this latest concept speaks volumes about the school’s success.
