The Swedish automaker Koenigsegg has unveiled its first ever hybrid sports car at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Titled as the Koenigsegg Regera, this hypercar follows the footsteps of other super cars like the LaFerrari, McLaren P1, BMW i8 and Porsche 918, with hybrid electric powertrain.
Reportedly, the new Koenigsegg Regera derives its power from a 5.0 litre twin-turbo gasoline V8 engine from the Koenigsegg Agera, which produces around 1,100 horsepower. In addition, the engine is mated to a set of three electric motors that will produce an additional 700 horsepower. All the power combined, the Koenigsegg Regera will be able to achieve its top speed of around 400km/h in less than 20 seconds.
Even though most of the design elements are inspired from the existing Agera, the company redesigned the rear sub-frame and structure. The exciting features on exterior are titanium exhaust pipe, LED daytime running lights, Dihedral Synchro Helix doors and a top-mounted rear wing, which is said to be world’s first fully foldable wing.
The automaker has confirmed it will manufacture only 80 examples of this car, while the production will go parallel with the Koenigsegg Agera. However, complete technical details and pricing information of this hypercar are yet to be announced.
