Official design sketches depicting the new Sport Coupe Concept GTE have been unveiled by Volkswagen ahead of the concept’s debut next week at the Geneva Motor Show.

The concept provides rare insight to the looks of Volkswagen’s upcoming CC – a departure from conventional Volkswagen design – scheduled for the end of 2015, which will be a part of the eighth-generation Passat range upon release.

The sketches show some resemblance to the standard Passat, while also being markedly more attractive. The new concept features a wide grille running the entire width of the car as well as new and prominent lower air vents wedged into the front bumper.

The swept-back rear rocks a prominent boot lip and dual exhaust exits. Four frameless doors and a heavily curved roof line are also on board.

The innards feature a turbocharged petrol engine functioning alongside two electric motors – with power being transmitted to all wheels through an “innovative” four-wheel drive system.

The VW design Chief, Walter de Silva is excited about the new concept, calling it a sharpened and refined version of classic VW design language, which effectively depicts Volkswagen’s future designs.

The upcoming Volkswagen Sport Coupe GTE is all set to rival extremely capable competitors like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A5 Sportback, despite being reportedly placed in a price bracket above the current CC. More details will be made available next week during the Geneva Motor Show. Stay tuned for more information.
