Ford has recently ditched its old Microsoft-based MyFord Touch infotainment platform to start working on a new Blackberry QNX-based Sync 3 architecture. The new Sync 3 was unveiled and demoed at the CES this year, and received rave reviews.
However, the Sync 3 just got even more mouth-watering.
A new report suggests that Ford is working on integrating both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its Sync 3 infotainment system to make it a complete phone-mirroring solution – one that would be useful to virtually everyone (considering Android and iOS make up nearly 80% of all the world’s phones).
Ford’s own AppLink setup will stay intact too, which allows drivers to control certain apps on a paired mobile phone through car’s voice and dashboard controls directly.
By this move, Ford intends to cover every possible buyer out there, so each one of them can connect their phones to their new Ford regardless of their phone’s brand and operating system.
According to a Ford representative, the new and improved Sync 3 system will make its way into new Ford vehicles this year, and will be present on every US-market Ford by the end of 2016.
