The German automaker Porsche is cooking up a new luxury sedan in its R&D department, which marks the company’s entry into the all-electric car market, to compete with Tesla Model S.

The report further states Porsche will share platform with the Panamera MK2 and the new Bentley Continental. It is going to be a 4-door sedan, inspired in the looks department by the popular 911. It will also reportedly be smaller in size than the 911.

Porsche has already tapped the electric vehicle department with its Cayenne Panamera and the gorgeous 918 plug-in hybrid models, but is now looking to fully embrace the idea of all-electric vehicles with the upcoming member of its portfolio.

The report goes on to describe the battery for the Porsche 717, stating it to be a topologic one, with its 108 battery pouches arranged in the form of a mountain range, as opposed to Tesla’s skateboard configuration. The battery will be recharged through induction.

The car will be an all-wheel drive with two electric motors to propel it, one for each axle. It will be able to travel 300 miles before requiring a recharge, with power maxing out at 600 HP.

Porsche’s rival to the Tesla Model S is all set to break cover sometime in 2019.
