BMW has revealed the 2016 Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe, featuring body customizations and under-the-hood tweaks. The four-door Gran Coupe has received a uniquely-styled front end, complete with a new front spoiler, front fascia, kidney grille and a reshaped hood with pronounced chines that hint at upgrades within.
BMW’s 4.4-liter Bi-Turbo V8 engine has been retuned for an impressive 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, available at just 3,500 rpm and sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive system. The figures mark a 155-pony jump over the 650i, and an extra 40 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of twist above the M6 Gran Coupe.
The engine enhancements involve larger turbochargers, new intercoolers, reworked air-intake ducting, fuel-delivery upgrades and a new air-filter housing, among other changes. Drivers can bask in the engine’s deep exhaust note by activating the Sport Mode to open active valves.
The company has provided preliminary performance figures, pointing to a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.6 seconds — the fastest-accelerating factory Alpina vehicle ever. Top speed is electronically limited to 320 kmph.
To rein in the extra power, Alpina has added 374mm brake discs on the front and 370mm discs on the rear, up from the stock 345mm components. Suspension has also been refined, while the rear wheel width has increased to 10 inches.
The company has not yet announced pricing information, but buyers will be able to place orders next month. Deliveries are expected to begin in June for the US market.
