Video footage of the salvaged luxury cars driven off the Hoegh Osaka cargo ship that nearly capsized off the southern coast of England last month has emerged online.
Reports mention that more than 1,400 brand-new Land Rovers, Minis and Jaguars along with a smaller number of Porsches, a ADED 1.4 m Rolls Royce Wraith, and 105 pieces of construction equipment, worth roughly AED 332 million (approx. US$90 million or €80 million), were on board the 51,000-tonne Hoegh Osaka that was purposely aground on January 3 spending 19 days listing at 52 degrees.
After the Singapore-registered vessel, which is 180 meters (591 feet) long and 32 meters (105 feet) wide, was re-floated and towed back to port, most cars were driven off, but a number of several damaged vehicles were either towed or lifted off the huge ship.
It’s not clear yet what will happen to the salvaged vehicles. BBC news talked to a number of company reps, including a spokeswoman from the BMW Group who said “the cars would be assessed once they had been taken from the ship”.
