As summer season comes to an end, Paris Motor Show is just around the corner. Renault plans to present an experimental engineering concept car which will have an energy efficiency of 141 mpg ( 227 kmg). The same was promised to be presented at Geneva Motor show in Spring but failed to show up.
The French Government has set up a challenge for the car manufacturers to achieve 141 mpg by 2020 and this is Renault’s attempt to take away the crown for this challenge.
Renault’s design boss, Laurens van den Acker, spoke to Autocar about the vehicle and claimed that a brand new platform is used to reduce weight and improve aerodynamics for better fuel efficiency. He also hinted that the car’s design will be a blend of sports car, hatchback and crossover styling cues.
Renault is not the only car manufacturer taking this challenge seriously; all French automakers have channelled their energies towards achieving an efficiency of 141mpg. Whether or not Renault becomes the first one to win this challenge is yet to be seen.
