Buying the car you choose
Once you’ve selected your dream car, visit the dealership. Remember, you have only completed half the work. There is still a lot to do; forms to be signed and legal paperwork to complete before you can drive out of the dealership in your new car. This is the second step in car buying process, and you must keep aside a day from work to complete it. Buying a new car is roughly a 4 to 5 hour job.
When you walk into the dealership, you have to:
Negotiate the trade-in deal
This depends on whether you want to trade-in your old vehicle and add another hour or so to the time you will have to spend at the dealership. To negotiate the price of your old vehicle, it’s best to search the market beforehand. This puts you in a better position to sell your old car at a good price.
Take out all belongings from your old car, wash it, and then drive it to the dealership. Be sure to bring all the documents with you in order to avoid any inconvenient delays. Your first hour at the dealership will surely be spent negotiating and finalizing the trade-in deal
Make the payment
A majority of car owners in the Middle East prefer to finance their car and pay installments through their bank instead of paying cash. Although paying cash does reduce the paperwork significantly, not everyone can opt for that. If you want car financing, be sure to have it pre-approved with the financer before you head to the dealership, even if you wish to get the financing at the dealership itself. It also helps if you know the mode of payments accepted at your chosen dealership before you visit. This whole process might take another forty-five minutes to an hour.
The insurance
For any new vehicle, it is compulsory to buy car insurance. If you buy a new policy before you purchase the car, it cuts down the time you have to spend at the dealership. All you need to do is to call your insurance provider and tell them which car you’re going to buy.
They will then give you a written letter or receipt as proof of insurance for your new vehicle, which you can present at the dealership at the time of purchase. However, even if you don’t want to think that far ahead, simply give your insurance company a call while you’re at the dealership, and tell them the Vehicle Identification Number of your new car. The company will then email an insurance card to your dealership as proof that you’re getting a policy for the vehicle being purchased. It won’t take more than half an hour to get this over if your insurer knows the car you have in mind. On the other hand, it may take as much as an hour if you call them at the dealership itself.
Some dealerships make things simpler for their buyers by simply demanding proof of an existing auto insurance policy that you have on your current car. In that case you can get insurance a day or two after you’ve made the purchase. Even though this is obviously an easier choice, it’s best to plan ahead and cut down on the time required to get a new insurance policy later on.
Your ID documents
You must keep a valid driver’s license with you when you go to the dealership. As you have to drive a new car from the lot, the dealership requires your driver’s license to confirm that you are legally allowed to drive.
All this seems too much hassle, but surely your new car is going to be worth the effort. Be smart and consider all the factors I have explained above.
Drive safe when it’s finally time to enjoy your new ride. We would love to hear your feedback on the comment section below
