In a move to protect consumer rights, the Ministry of Economy has compiled a supplementary booklet for all vehicle owners, which relays essential information for road safety.

Launched at the 11th meeting of Car Dealers’ Council, the 26-page booklet is a compilation of various pieces of information aimed at enlightening drivers about their rights and giving out important facts to maintain their vehicles.

Going into details of the manual, the Director of Consumer Protection Department in the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi pointed out that the booklet is divided into various sections, each addressing a different matter. The initial section of the manual has been written to inform customers about the kind of documents they will need to purchase a new car as well as information on auto insurance.

The publication also includes important information regarding exchanging cars, methods for reclaiming a car, basis for claiming a temporary substitute car, advices on maintaining a vehicle, and information on repair damages during an insurance period.

According to Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, the provision of the manual was done in accordance with the Federal Law No. 24 of 2006, which calls for the protection of consumer rights. He said that his ministry was constantly working to improve the standards of consumer protection and it aimed to outlaw all fraudulent practices in the region.

This recent development of publishing a booklet follows a rigorous consumer awareness campaign initiated by the Ministry of Economy and executed with the help of Car Dealer’s Council. The Council has been advised to print several copies of this manual and make them available to customers in their respective auto showrooms.

The meeting table was also used to discuss issues of common interest such as the rising crimes of car theft and considered solutions to reduce such incidents in future. Dr. Hashim urged all dealers to help his ministry fight the menace of all counterfeit practices.
