Lexus’ UK unit has completed its social-media campaign to name the bold orange hue for the new RC F.
The company will officially name the color “Solar Flare,” submitted by five Facebook fans and subsequently chosen by Lexus UK director Richard Balshaw. The term was among approximately 400 different entries collected over the span of four weeks.
“Solar Flare was chosen as we think it captures the power and excitement of the RC F, as well as the impact of the paint finish itself,” Balshaw noted.
Unveiled at the Detroit auto show in a vibrant blue hue, the RC F represents a performance upgrade over the standard RC coupe. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8, tuned to produce 450 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
The sport focus is further reinforced by a torque-vectoring rear differential, Brembo brakes, an active rear wing and carbon-fiber components to help keep the curb weight below 4,000 pounds.
Lexus expects to ship the RC F early next year, though pricing has not been announced.
