While Google Glass isn’t yet available to the world outside US, it couldn’t stop Dubai Police from testing it as a potential tool to help police officers catch traffic violators in the city. According to a recent report by the Gulf News, Dubai Police have already decided to use the device to picture traffic offenders and identify illegal vehicles. The Google Glass is a tiny computer that is arranged on glasses. This computer is capable of taking photos, recording videos, accessing the internet and giving directions among many other uses. Dubai Police’s Smart Services teams have already developed two applications for this new device that will be used by police officers. One of the apps will allow photographing traffic violations, while the other will be used to recognize wanted cars. This technology will be compatible with both, Android and iOS.
Simplicity is one of the features of this device. It is very easy to use; officers will only need to tap the side of the glass and the photographs, along with time, date and location will automatically be transmitted to the system. Similarly, officers will simply need to look at number plates, and the Google Glass will automatically cross-reference the data with traffic department and alert the officer if a car is wanted.
The Google Glass is available for $1,500 in the US (Dh 5,509), excluding taxes.
