Ferrari has detailed the redesigned 2015 California T ahead of its debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
Updated for the second time since its launch in 2008, the California T gains an evolution of the twin-turbocharged V8 that is also found under the hood of the Maserati Quattroporte. Ferrari engineers have managed to squeeze 560 horsepower and 556 lb-ft. of torque from the eight-cylinder mill thanks to a host of modifications including a displacement that has been increased to 3.9-liters.
The California T reaches 62 mph from a stop in 3.6 seconds, .2 seconds faster than when equipped with the old 4.3-liter V8. Official fuel economy figures are not available but Ferrari expects the California T to be up to 20 percent more efficient than the outgoing California.
A three-piece exhaust manifold helps create the powerful growl owners expect from a car with the Prancing Horse emblem on the hood.
Visually, the California T features a new front fascia that falls in line with Ferrari’s latest design language. The updates include elongated headlights inspired by the F12berlinetta, a simpler version of Ferrari’s trademarked egg-crate grille and a new hood with two deep air vents. The rear end is fitted with a redrawn bumper, horizontal tail pipes and a more prominent air diffuser.
Ferrari’s most affordable model continues to use a folding hard top that stows away neatly in 14 seconds at the push of a button.
The cockpit boasts a thoroughly refreshed dashboard with new buttons and knobs and a more fluid center console. The Chrysler-sourced uConnect infotainment system has been replaced by a more modern software controlled via a 6.5-inch touch screen mounted on the center stack, and a redesigned steering wheel that houses buttons for functions like the turn signals and the windshield wipers comes standard.
Ferrari will publish pricing information closer to the California T’s on-sale date.
