Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division has published a teaser sketch that previews a limited-edition model based on the Phantom Drophead Coupé.
Called Waterspeed Collection, the limited-edition convertible pays homage to a Rolls-Royce-powered Bluebird K3 boat that made international headlines in 1937 when it was piloted to a top speed of 207 kmph on Lake Maggiore by Sir Malcom Campbell. Campbell’s record enabled England to claim the coveted water speed record from the United States after a five-year battle.
Details are scarce, but company executives promise the limited-edition Phantom Drophead Coupé will boast some of the most upscale materials ever used on a Rolls-Royce including brushed steel and carbon fiber. The cars will wear a special paint color called Maggiore Blue developed specifically for the Waterspeed Collection.
Limited to just 35 examples worldwide, the exclusive Waterspeed Collection is designed to showcase Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division’s know-how in manufacturing tailor-made cars.
“This special Collection, and those to follow in 2014, serve to display the breadth of Bespoke personalization available to every Rolls-Royce customer. I very much look forward to revealing these remarkable cars over the coming months,” said company CEO Torsten in a statement.
More details about the Phantom Drophead Coupé Waterspeed Collection will emerge over the coming months, and the first production car might be revealed at the Paris Motor Show that will open its doors to the press next October.
