A picture published by Italy’s Quattroruote magazine might have revealed the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon well ahead of its scheduled debut at next March’s Geneva Motor Show.
The C wagon is nearly identical to its all-new four-door sedan counterpart from the tip of the front bumper to the B-pillar. Beyond that, it gains a set of horizontal tail lamps and a sloping roof line accentuated by brushed aluminum roof rails and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Mechanically, the wagon will launch with the same four-cylinder engines offered on the European-spec sedan. Buyers will be asked to choose between two gas engines that churn out 156 and 184 horsepower, respectively, and a lone diesel rated at 170 ponies. More engines will be added to the lineup later in the production run, but rumors indicate the range-topping C63 AMG will not be offered as a wagon.
Most engines will be available with either a seven-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual unit. Rear-wheel drive will come standard, and all-wheel drive will be available at an extra cost.
After debuting in Switzerland, the C-Class will go on sale across Europe later this year. The wagon will not take on the BMW 3-Series Sports Wagon in the United States but buyers after a more spacious C will reportedly get a sporty hatchback variant aimed squarely at the 3-Series GT.
