Nearly everything about the Fiat 500 is retro-inspired, but the new Fiat 500 1957 Edition that will debut at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show goes a step further.

Swathed in one of three “classic” exterior paint schemes, the 500 1957 Edition bristles with vintage charm. A white (or Bianco, in Italian) roof, heritage-style Fiat badges and period-style wheels look more to the past than the future.

The 1957 Edition’s name plays homage to the when the original Nuova 500 was introduced as a replacement to the company’s pre-war 500 Topolino. A huge success in Italy, the car was synonymous with the country’s post-World War II growth.

Based on the 500 Lounge trim level, the 1957 Edition will be available in either white, Verde Chiaro (a light green) or an exclsusive blue called Celeste (pictured). Regardless, all 1957s get the aforementioned white roof plus white mirror caps. Inside, brown leather seats and accents are included. Once again, special retro-style Fiat badges have been placed throughout the 500. 

Owners will also receive a special ivory key fob unique to the 1957 Edition.

Underneath, the 1957 Edition is identical to other Fiat 500s, which means it retains the naturally-aspirated 1.4-liter four-cylinder with Fiat’s MultiAir variable valve actuation technology. Both five-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes are on offer.

Pricing for the 1957 Edition hasn’t been announced, but Fiat says it will be released closer to the car’s on-sale date during the spring of 2014.
