Honda introduced a raft of updates to its Civic sedan after just one year of sales due to a spate of negative reviews for the redesigned 2012 model. Now it’s the Civic Coupe’s turn to receive those updates, and we’ll be seeing the new car for the first time at the 2013 SEMA show taking place in Las Vegas from November 5.
Details and technical changes will be announced in the coming weeks, but to keep our interest Honda has released this single image showing the rear of the sporty Si variant. In addition to tweaked lights, the car also appears to be wearing a new bumper and a rear spoiler.
The updated Civic Coupe will go on sale shortly after its SEMA debut, as a 2014 model. Based on the updates for the sedan, expect this 2014 Civic Coupe to feature soft-touch materials in the cabin, improved fit and finish around the dash, and higher-quality seat fabric. Expect more standard features as well.
The drivetrain should carry over unchanged. This means a 1.8-liter four-cylinder good for 140 horsepower in the base model and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower in the Si. A five-speed manual should remain standard with a five-speedauto continuing to be offered as an option.
SEMA isn’t typically where automakers show off new models. It is, after all, a mecca for tuners. During the 1980s and ‘90s, the Civic Coupe was one of the most popular imports in the tuning scene and Honda is hoping to relive those glory days by showing the new 2014 Civic Coupe at the world’s best event for tuners.
Along with the updated Civic Coupe, the Honda SEMA booth will feature an impressive array of custom cars, motorcycles and even the 133-mph ‘Mean Mower’ lawnmower. For the rest of our SEMA coverage, head to our dedicated hub.
