General Motors is calling back 21,721 examples of its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks to address a seat-related safety issue. The recall is the second to hit the General’s recently redesigned pickups.
Affected vehicles, which are fitted with manual front reclining seatbacks, include 18,972 Silverados and Sierras in the United States, 2,575 in Canada, 103 in Mexico and 71 in other markets.
The impetus for the recall are front seatbacks that could potentially move in a rear-end crash and prevent the headrests from properly protecting passengers.
To address the problem, dealers will inspect and, when necessary, make adjustments to the seatbacks free of charge.
No accidents or injuries have been linked to the seat issue, GM says.
Back in July, GM recalled a small batch of 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups to fix airbags that were at risk to not fully inflate in the event of a crash.
