A 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO racer has become the most expensive car ever sold after it was acquired for a mind boggling sum of $52 million. It was bought in private by an unidentified buyer last month from collector Paul Pappalardo.
The record-breaking GTO carries chassis number 5111 and has a distinguished history that includes winning the 1963 Tour de France road race under the expertise of French driver Jean Guichet.
The previous record was held by a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO driven by Sir Stirling Moss which sold for a paltry sum of $35 million in 2012. This means the record has risen a massive 49% in just one year and re-confirms the Ferrari 250 GTO as the most valuable production car in history.
At this rate is surely won’t be long before the first $100 million car is bought.
