Saleen has introduced the 2014 George Follmer Edition Mustang at Laguna Seca this weekend as part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
When Saleen teased a new model several days ago we assumed it was the already confirmed supercar but we were wrong as the car in question is a custom Mustang which paves the way for the Saleen Heritage Collection. The first model is a tribute to an important race driver of the 60s and 70s who ran the Indianapolis 500, competed in F1 with the Shadow team in 1973, raced in NASCAR’s Winston Cup and was also a Can-Am champion in 1972.
The car is wearing a tri-color paint scheme and takes its styling inspiration from the 1962 Boss 302 racer driven by Follmer. It sits on 19-inch alloys and is powered by a naturally-aspirated V8 engine outputting an estimated 470 bhp (350 kW) delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox. It has also been fitted with a race-spec suspension with a watts linkage and a very loud exhaust.
Already available on order with deliveries starting late this fall, the 2014 Saleen George Follmer Edition Mustang costs about 75,000 USD. It will be followed by two other special models part of the collection, the Saleen Mark Donohue Edition Camaro and the Saleen Savage Edition Barracuda.
