Now that it has the V8s out of the way, Mercedes-Benz is turning its attention to V12-powered versions of its all-new S-Class flagship sedan.
Following the May launch of the 4.7L S550 and the July introduction of the 5.5L S63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce the first version of the new S-Class with a V12 stuffed under the hood at November’s Los Angeles auto show.
According to Car and Driver, Mercedes will use the LA show to debut its fire-breathing S65 AMG. Like the current S65, the new version of the car – which will either bow as a 2014 or 2015 model – will use the company’s 6.0L twin-turbocharged V12, but power should see a bump from today’s 621 horsepower.
That power increase teamed with the S-Class’ lighter body should ensure a sub-4 second 0-60 run for the S65 AMG.
Just a couple of months after the S65 AMG’s debut in LA, Mercedes will unveil the standard S600 at the Detroit auto show.
For those a little more eco-conscious, Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil a plug-in hybrid version of the S-Class at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
