The first purported picture of the 2014 Mazda3 sedan has surfaced on the web.

While we cannot confirm its authenticity, the picture shows the model will eschew its hatchback for a tiny trunk with a small rear spoiler. Mazda has been relatively quiet about the model but previously confirmed it will have a best-in-class coefficient of drag of 0.255 when equipped the active air shutter grille and the i-ELOOP regenerative braking system.

Engine options will carryover from the hatchback, so expect choices to include:

A 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G with 99 bhp (74 kW) and 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) of torque
A 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G with outputs of 118 bhp (88 kW), 155 bhp (115 kW) and 162 bhp (121 kW)
A 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G with 184 bhp (137 kW) and 185 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque
A 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D with 148 bhp (110 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque
