Japanese automaker Honda says that it is launching the recall of 143,000 examples of its Fit subcompact car in order to rectify a problem with their power window switches. The recall is the second to address an issue with the cars’ door-mounted switch panels.

According to Honda, liquids – like rain water or a spilled drink – that come in contact with the master switch panel on the driver’s door can cause the electronics to overheat and catch fire. The recall is a near copy of a 2010 campaign to address the exact same issue, but Honda says that subsequent investigation has revealed that the repairs it made to affected vehicles didn’t go far enough.

This time, Honda says it will inspect and, in some cases, replace master switch panels with a new internal design.

The automaker says that, although it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem, it advises owners of 2007 and 2008 model year Fits to park their cars outside until the recall can be performed.

Owners of affected 2007 and 2008 Fits will be notified beginning in mid-July.
