Peugeot has confirmed that it will travel to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil the RCZ R, the most powerful regular-production model it has ever built. The coupe was previewed by a thinly-veiled concept that bowed at last September’s Paris Motor Show.
The RCZ R will pack a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developed jointly by PSA and BMW. Also found under the hood of the Citroën DS3 hatchback and the MINI Cooper, the four-banger will send 260 horsepower to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Performance figures are not available but the two-seater packs an impressive 160 horsepower per liter.
Peugeot will fit the RCZ R with a stiffer suspension in order to obtain a more responsive ride, while track-rated tires and upgraded brakes on all four corners will help keep the extra power in check.
Visually, the R will differ from the regular RCZ thanks to dual chromed exhaust tips, a trunk-mounted spoiler and model-specific alloy wheels.
Peugeot is expected to publish a full set of details about the RCZ R in the coming days.
The coupe might be sold as a limited-edition model when it lands in showrooms across Europe only this fall.
