Finding a car that looks good is easy. However, looks aren’t everything. As the old saying goes, “It’s what is inside that counts.”  Whether buying a convertible, coupe, new, or used car, find out every detail before signing the loan paperwork. Think about the model, size, options, and safety. Research different cars online and find out the value. Don’t assume the advertised price is the best price.

For new cars, check the invoice price and compare it to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Be prepared to negotiate to pay as close to invoice price as possible. Test drive the car as well. This will assist you in deciding how the car feels when it comes to comfort and on the road. Test it on roundabouts and the motorway.

If buying a used car, there is even more to think about before buying. Check the current value online. Be sure and include the exact model, year, options, and condition. Also look for any manufacturer recalls on the vehicle. It is also crucial to find out the number of previous owners, prior mechanical issues, and most importantly, if the car was ever in an accident. Taking the time to find out every detail about a used car will decrease the chances you will end up with a Friday car.

Consider the future maintenance. What is the warranty and what does it cover?  There needs to be room in the monthly budget for maintenance and repairs even if you buy the car brand new.

Think about how long you plan to keep the car. Many people keep their cars for five to ten years. Life can change drastically over time. A sports car may not be the best choice for someone who plans on starting a family within a few years. Other items to contemplate are the commute to work, weather, and depreciation.

There are great new and used cars for sale. With a budget, research, and a few negotiating skills, you will drive home in a reliable car which will last for many years into the future
