Volkswagen’s sales and marketing boss, Jürgen Stackmann told Autocar that they have plans to introduce VW Touareg R in plug-in hybrid guise next year with deliveries starting a year later. He also revealed about their intentions to launch different R models, including the Golf R, which we will be able to see next year.

It is worth noting, this is not the first Touareg R model from the automaker. The company sold Touareg R50 previously featuring a 5.0L V10 diesel pumping out 345 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. However, diesel isn’t on the company’s list anymore.

For the new VW Touareg R, we are betting on multiple engines. A 2.0L petrol engine getting assistance from an electric motor is on the cards. Besides, Volkswagen is already selling an electrified SUV in China, so we either hope to see a tweaked version of that powertrain or something entirely new in shape of a new turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine, which they planned a couple of years ago. Whatever they will decide, we are looking for a combined output of more than 400 hp at least for the Hot R.

The regular Touareg is available in the UAE in multiple powertrains including a 3.6L V6 and 4.2L V8.

Talking about the all-electric Touareg R, Stackmann said, it might not happen soon. They are more inclined to electrified versions.
