The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has added 110 new buses in its fleet to make traveling across the Emirate convenient for travelers. Produced by the Chinese company, Yutong, SRTA bought them for a whopping Dh 70 million. Travelers will need a Sayer prepaid card, which starts at Dh45 minimum.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, director of the authority for Transportation Affairs, told media that the new buses are equipped with all the bells and whistles one would expect in an advanced coach. Every bus has wi-fi, mobile chargers, three surveillance cameras, fire extinguishers, GPS, and remote monitoring systems. The Euro 5 specification bus can carry 39 passengers, and there are 26 slots available for standing travelers. Furthermore, every coach has a reserved area for People of Determination featuring hydraulic ramps for their convenience and protection. Anyone over 60 years of age or have a disability will get free rides on these buses.

Sheikh Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, director of the Privilege and Licensing Department, clarified about different categories of Sayer prepaid cards. “Three categories of Sayer cards are available: Blue Sayer card at the cost of Dh45, Dh90 or Dh180, and a Dh225 monthly subscription card – whose holder can avail unlimited bus trips on all routes for one month. The white Sayer prepaid commuting card will be free for people of determination and people over 60 years,” he stated.
