Abu Dhabi Police have revealed the main causes of road deaths in the UAE in the 3rd quarter of last year. According to statistics, Distracted Driving, Over Speeding and Lack of Courtesy to Other Road Users are three main reasons behind fatalities on the UAE roads.
Talking about the distracted driving, 468 persons died last year out of which 13% were killed due to drivers taking their eyes off the road. Dubai Police also reported that distracted driving took the lives of 59 people and injured 495 others last year.
To aware people about the dangers of distracted driving, overspeeding, and other violations, Abu Dhabi Police is running an awareness campaign. The authorities look to minimize the number of road deaths by 25% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2018. In the next two years, they want to reduce it to 3 death per 100,000 people. Last year statistics show 3.83 road deaths per 100,000 people.
