The Japanese automaker introduced the new-generation of the Mazda3 last year with lots of improvements. For the 2020 model year, both sedan and hatchback models are getting a price bump, according to Car and Driver. While the sedan will add $500 to the sticker price, the 2020 Mazda3 hatchback model will reportedly see an increase of $1,020 in the base-price.

It is worth noting that the sedan will get extra standard equipment, which makes the price increase worth it. However, the price bump for the hatchback does not make sense because the base-model doesn’t add any equipment to the ongoing model. When contacted by Motor1.com, the automaker denied offering any details on the price increase.

The 2020 Mazda3 Sedan will add Mazda’s suite of i-Activsense safety featuring adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, etc. The 2019 Mazda3 Hatchback already offers these features as standard, but for the next model, these would come at a higher price. The 2020 Mazda3 Hatchback will sell at $24,620, making it a hard sell against its rivals like Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. It is true, the Mazda3 excels in the styling department, but it comes at the cost of interior space and visibility issues.

Stay tuned as we bring you the official pricing details of the 2020 Mazda3.
