Being in production for eight decades, Volkswagen finally bids farewell to their famous Beetle. The last Beetle rolled out of the assembly line in Puebla Mexico on July 10 sporting Denim Blue paint. The car is not for sale though; the automaker intends to display it at the Volkswagen museum in Puebla.

The first Beetle hit the market in 1938. The second generation was introduced in 1998, followed by the current generation, which came in 2012. Marking this the last year of the Beetle, VW also introduced a Beetle Final Edition, which reminds us of the first-generation Beetle.

Volkswagen decision to seize Beetle’s production came in the wake of slowed sales in the U.S. – the biggest market for this model. The Mexico plant will now focus on building a compact crossover reportedly named Tarek.

The Beetle’s fans might not like it, but the automaker isn’t planning an EV version of this famous nameplate. Right now, they are concentrating on a spiritual heir to the Microbus, which will hit roads next decade.
