The temperatures are rising in the UAE and it is time to inspect our car tires to ensure our safety as well as of others on the road. Unfortunately, people do not take it seriously and even try to dodge authorities on this. Recently, Sharjah police found motorists coming for vehicle inspection were using rented tires just to pass the test. While they were able to dodge the authorities, they may not be able to avoid an accident with invalid, fake and faulty tires.

Lt. Saud Al Shaiba, director of the awareness department at the Sharjah Police warned the motorists on the consequences of using invalid tires. He added that they witnessed a huge number of accidents in the past few years due to expired tires.

“The temperature reaches up to 50 degrees Celsius in summer, which makes the road surfaces to become very hot. This can cause the old and worn-out tires to burst and lead to horrific accidents.” “During summer, motorists should double-check the safety of their cars and tires before traveling,” he said.

During June inspections, Sharjah Police found motorists adding a retread to conceal the faulty tires. The police even found that vehicles with invalid, unsafe tires passed the vehicle inspection a day to two or even a few hours earlier. The motorists confessed they used rented tires to pass the test.

“Motorists do this because they just want to save some money, ignoring that such kind of violation could cost them their lives,” Al Shaiba said.

Sharjah Police have started an awareness campaign in this regard in association with the Sharjah Economic and Development Department (SEDD) to educate motorists about the significance of using sound tires. Police are also issuing fines and charging black points to drivers using unsafe tires. Additionally, they are taking action against workshops renting tires.
