From the coming Sunday, Abu Dhabi Police will fine drivers speeding in poor visibility conditions. The radars will flash when speeding drivers do not follow the updated speed limits in foggy and sandy weather. Such weather demands lower than normal speed and keeping a safe distance, as it hampers the visibility.
The motorists will have to follow the limits notified on the electronic message boards. Alternatively, the Department of Transport may also send SMS to motorists asking them to follow a certain speed limit.
The authorities have put a limit of 80 km/h with road visibility under 2,000m. The speeding drivers have to be very careful, as they will be fined according to their speed. The higher the speed, the more fines they will accumulate. For instance, a motorist crossing the speed limit by 30 km/h will receive a fine of Dh600. If they run the limit by 40 km/h, the fine will increase to Dh700. A fine of Dh1,000 is set on crossing the limit by 50 km/h.
The motorists are advised to follow the normal limits as the weather improves.
