Ford Motor Co. has confirmed plans to introduce an electric Ford F-150 and Super Duty pickups. The announcement was made by Jim Farley, Ford president of global markets while talking to investment analysts in Detroit.
Ford has been working on F-150 hybrid for quite some time, which might reach by next year, however, the company also wanted to protect its market share at the same time and rival the likes of Tesla and Rivian.
“Here’s what’s going to happen next to future-proof that global juggernaut of commercial vehicles,” Farley said. “We’re going to be electrifying the F-Series, both battery-electric and hybrid. And we’re doing the same for Transit.”
Like other big automakers, Ford is also investing in EVs, so electric F-series isn’t a shock for us. The automaker is also creating an all-electric crossover and just signed a deal with VW. Ford has plans to introduce 16 battery electric and 24 hybrids in the market over the course of the next few years.
With these recent developments, the electric pickup truck segment is going to see fierce competition. Tesla is working on its electric truck while the newcomer Rivian has already shown us their electric truck offering a range of around 400 miles and towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. These figures are truly impressive and we are waiting for how Ford and Tesla will beat them.
Ford’s push into the electric realm with electric Ford F-150 does not concern us a great deal since it’s going to sell well; people blindly trust this pickup truck. However, we do want to see how it fares against its competition.
