Volkswagen recently revealed a mobile fast-charging station for electric cars. By launching this mobile charger in 2019, Volkswagen will join the small number of companies trying to enhance the convenience of EV charging stations since most chargers today have a fixed location. Furthermore, Volkswagen will also be the first automaker to work on mobile chargers.
The biggest advantage of this mobile fast-charging station for electric cars is that it will enable companies to test out several locations before installing a permanent station. The fast charger utilizes simple technology and acts in the same way as a smartphone power bank does. After completing its charging job, it can move to any location to quickly charge another electric vehicle.
According to Volkswagen, the fast-charger can charge about 15 electric vehicles and takes only 17 minutes to juice up one car. Once the capacity of the station falls below 20 percent, it can be replaced with a fully charged station. The mobile fast-charging station for electric cars can also be permanently connected to a 30 kWh power supply to charge itself. In addition, the charging station is also capable of charging itself from a renewable energy source.
Volkswagen plans to launch the first mobile fast-charging station for electric cars in 2019 in its hometown- Wolfsburg, Germany. By 2020, the company aims to launch them in other cities as well, and even has plans to roll out many charging stations for a big event and shift them to another location based on requirement.
