Autocar recently shared an image, which shows an open-top, lifted buggy with Santa Clause driving it. The teaser image is part of a Volkswagen Christmas card showing bumpy front tires and a sand flag for recognizing it in a dust cloud. The first beach buggy was designed by Bruce Meyers for desert racing in 1964.
Autocar believes Volkswagen is planning to introduce three retro-inspired electric cars. This will be the third model. The other two are confirmed and include ID Buzz microbus and a Beetle inspired hatchback. The new beach buggy will be reminiscent of the original model with an electric powertrain.
The German automaker might introduce it in the concept form at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The automaker also reportedly plans to unveil a luxury electric SUV at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2019.
