Seeing people’s fascination in the classic cars, Aston Martin Works has developed first reversible EV powertrain concept letting the classics to live as Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs).

The idea was to preserve the classics for the future. The question is why we need it? For instance, if the authorities put a ban on internal combustion engine in future, classics will be dead. At the same time, any classic car owner would not want to make permanent alternations in their vehicle. Changing the engine means, the vehicle will drive and feel different. The solution? There comes reversible EV powertrain from Aston Martin Works.

Developed under the Heritage electrification concept, it will allow classic cars to maintain their original characteristics in the EV form with the capability to be returned to its gasoline form.

Aston Martin created this powertrain using all its expertise attained during the creation of the Rapide E.

The British automaker will use this reversible EV powertrain on an original 1970 DB6 MkII Volante.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda President, and Group Chief Executive Officer stated: “We are very aware of the environmental and social pressures that threaten to restrict the use of classic cars in the years to come. Our Second Century Plan not only encompasses our new and future models but also protects our treasured heritage. I believe this not only makes Aston Martin unique, but a truly forward-thinking leader in this field.”

Paul Spires, President Aston Martin Works remarked: “We have been looking for some time to find a way of protecting our customers’ long-term enjoyment of their cars. Driving a classic Aston Martin on pure EV power is a unique experience and one that will no doubt be extremely attractive to many owners, especially those who live in city centers. We also foresee collectors adding another dimension to their collection by commissioning EV-converted heritage cars.”

The conversions will start next year and they will not be cheap. The starting price of any restoration job by Aston Martin Works is $500,000, so expect these to be costlier than this.
