Most of us know that the Pacific Ocean has a big amount of waste plastic floating around but so little has been to tackle this situation. The Ocean Cleanup is the best solution we got from Boyan Slat. It tackles the ‘plastic soup’ through a 600-meter-long tube that floats on the water. In order to help them in their efforts, Boyan Slat and his team have chosen BMW i3 for mobility as it completely follows the philosophy of their company.

The Ocean Cleanup program was started in September 2018 where three BMW i3 models were supplied to the Boyan Slat and his team to offer them 100% electric mobility.

BMW i3 Ocean Clean Up 2018

“At BMW i as an incubator for innovations we also keep pushing the boundaries of sustainability, even beyond the car”, says Dr. Robert Irlinger, head of BMW i. “We are delighted to support The Ocean Cleanup on their mission because we share the same mindset.”

As BMW Group is the world’s most sustainable car manufacturer, they feel the need to eradicate plastic pollution. All BMW i3 cars are up to 95% recyclable. This commitment is recognized by DowJones Sustainability Index and several other bodies.
