BMW has announced that the new 2019 BMW i3 will receive a bigger battery and 153 miles of range. This is the second time BMW has increased the battery range, the last time was in 2017.

Compared to 33-kilowatt-hour battery, which offers 115 miles of range, the new 42.2-kilowatt-hour battery would deliver around 153 miles of range. The good thing is the new battery will be standard across all the i3 range.

BMW told media that they worked closely with the battery developers and though the battery looks the same, the cell capacity has been increased from 94 amp hours to 120 amp hours. Please note, when BMW launched the i3 in 2014, the range was only 60 amp hours.

In the powertrain department, we will not see any change as the rear electric motor will still generate 170 hp in the base model. The Sportier version will create a little better horsepower rated at 181. The car will run from 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds. The i3s version will do a little better with 6.8 seconds sprint time. The i3 REX will be a little slower owing to their additional weight.

New to the 2019 BMW i3 are fresh exterior colors (Jucaro Beige Metallic with Frozen Gray accents), a fresh upholstery choice and full LED headlights with cornering lights and automatic high beams. Moreover, customers will benefit from a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless charging facility.

BMW i3 is already a part of the Dubai police fleet, however, the automaker does not sell it here. The only i model comes here is i8
