The Aston Martin DB5, the old Bond car, is back with a bang thanks to Aston Martin’s collaboration with EON Productions – the company responsible for making Bond films. Under the partnership, 25 Aston Martin Goldfinger DB5 cars will be made. The automaker has started this project after the successful continuation of the DB4 G.T.
The Aston Martin Goldfinger DB5 will be based on the 1964 James Bond car and will be produced in Newport Pagnell by Aston Martin Works – the place where the first DB5 was originally built. The 25 new cars will be an exact mirror image of the legendary car with the exception of a few tweaks to ensure its long life.
Interestingly, all the cool gadgets from the Bond car will be found in its recreations including the switching number plates which were pretty famous. The special effects supervisor of Bond films Chris Corbould will help with the different gadgets. The Goldfinger edition cars will only be offered in Silver Birch paint.
The DB5 made its first entry in the 3rd Bond movie starring Sean Connery. The car became an instant hit among the masses. Thus, after its initial appearance, the car made appearance in 6 other Bond movies.
Andy Palmer, President and Chief Executive Officer, Aston Martin, stated: “The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years. To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy. The skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin Works and the expert special effects team from the James Bond films are about to make this fantasy real for 25 very lucky customers.”
The Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger will cost £2.75 million excluding taxes with deliveries starting by the start of 2020.
