The first Cobra Jet Mustang was introduced 50 years ago by Bob Tasca – a racer and dealer of Ford vehicles. This year Ford has revealed the 50th Anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet based on the design of the 6th generation Mustang and it is the fastest drag racer to come out of Ford’s factories yet.

The power is created by a brand-new 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, which will also be installed in the upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500. This motor is capable of making enough power to push the car forward a quarter mile in around 8 seconds. The top speed is limited to 150 mph.

The Cobra Jet features state of the art four-link rear suspension with special coil overs. The rear axle is 9-inches thick provided by Strange Engineering, the roll-cage is NHRA certified, the seats are made by Racetech FIA, while the wheels come from Weld Racing.

The Cobra Jet is specifically built to comply with National Hot Rod Association, National Mustang Racers Association, and National Muscle Car Association standards.

Customers can buy the car for $130,000 in Race Red or Oxford White colors. Only 68 examples will be built. The 50th Anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet debuted during the Woodward Dream Cruise this past weekend.
